Occupation:
Senior Administration - Yale University – 12 years
Family:
I live with my husband and we have two wonderful children who have attended North Haven Public Schools and a cat named Princess Jasmine Meowington, the third.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
N/A
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Appointed Board of Education and Community Services Commission in 2024.
Why are you seeking this office?
I am running to keep my seat on the Board of Education because I have a desire to continue the existing work that myself and my fellow BOE members have started, and to continue advocating for students and families in our town.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
I believe a big issue our school system faces right now is the condition of our elementary schools. I intend to work with the board and the administration to come up with a plan of action to give the kids a more modernized, climate controlled and safety enhanced environment like we have at our middle and high schools.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
The other candidates all have great backgrounds and skills that they bring to the table. As for myself, my experience working in higher education brings knowledge that can really help shape how we approach setting our students up for success after graduation. I also try to volunteer within the school system, such as running stage crew for the NHHS drama club and volunteering at NHMS as well. This really helps me see things inside our schools and recognize our strengths and weaknesses in real time.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
It is imperative to establish a better collaboration between the Board of Education and other boards, such as the Board of Finance. I also feel like it’s important to collaborate with our community members and school families because the success of our public schools effect the entire community.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have the wonderful advantage of being appointed into this role a little over a year ago. Due to this, I have been able to already go through a budget cycle and was able to be a part of choosing our new bus company. These experiences have prepared me to be able to continue this work and take on bigger projects in the future to improve our schools. Also, with my participation in the Curriculum & Instruction subcommittee, I have been able to approve amazing opportunities for our students, such as new college level classes and programs, out of state field trips and new clubs for our students like Forensics Club, STEM Club and Morgan’s Message.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
A piece of advice I remind myself of is to not say or do anything that you wouldn’t want published on a billboard for everyone to see. For me, this means to lead with kindness and compassion and to always try to be a good person in public and behind the scenes. A true judge of character is how you treat others, even when you think no one is watching.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I love this town. My parents built my childhood home here in the 1980s and I went through the school system myself, along with my brother and cousins. A lot of my family also grew up and stayed in this town, making North Haven my safe space. When I started my own family, we decided to stay and raise our own kids here too. So I am deeply rooted in not only the history of this town, but its future. I have a lot personally invested in what happens here and I want to make sure North Haven continues to grow and be a bright and safe community for current and future families!
