Occupation:
Tax Collector/Town Clerk for the Town of North Haven -- 16 years & Attorney 24 years
Family:
Husband, Brian & 2 Children, Isabella and Riley
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Yes. I've been the elected North Haven Town Clerk & Tax Collector since 2009. I am also an appointed member of QVHD, since 2022.
Why are you seeking this office?
I love working with the public, and I am able to use my legal background and history background to my advantage. I find that my special skill set works well with the demands of both of the offices that I have managed for nearly 16 years. I am very lucky, as I love what I do. Not many people can say that of their job.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
The cost of living is out of control. I have to be mindful of this in my work as Tax Collector and Town Clerk. It is a difficult balance for all, including myself, to pay the regular bills of day to day living (mortgage, groceries, gas, etc.) and or obligation to pay municipal taxes, fees, etc. for town services.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
N/A -- running unopposed
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Any and all issues as relate to my two offices are of my concern. There isn't enough space to list here. Yet, I'm always open to meeting with my constituents to discuss their concerns and needs. I keep my door, and my mind, open to all.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
My record as Town Clerk & Tax Collector for 16 years is indicative of 1. my commitment to the town 2. my dedication to doing my level best work for the two offices that I supervise. It is my honor to work for and with the people of North Haven. And, I'm not just saying this... I really love what I do. I'm truly blessed.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Public service is a privilege and a duty. Also, my favorite quote: "Be yourself; everyone else is taken."
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I'm from Mississippi. I went to college in Arizona. I moved to Connecticut for law school. I practiced law for ten years, before taking on municipal government as my career. My two offices are super important to the Town, yet many people don't really think too much about them/the details of the offices/all of us who run them. So, if you are interested, come down and check us out, ask questions, etc. I know that paying your taxes isn't super exciting, nor a fun thing to do. Yet, if you know the details of the process of how taxation comes to be, you will find that it is very interesting and enlightening. Further, the multifarious aspects of the work done in the Town Clerk's office is amazing and intriguing, especially if you are a history lover.
Also... I'm an open book. Feel free to ask me anything. I'd love to chat with you.
