NORTH HAVEN, CT — Long-time First Selectman Michael J. Freda suffered a "medical episode involving a brain bleed" and is recovering, said Valerie Goodkin, who is the executive assistant to Freda.

"Last week Mr. Freda suffered a medical episode involving a brain bleed," Goodkin wrote on the town's Facebook page. "He is home and recovering very well. Due to his outstanding physical condition and strength, his medical team is very optimistic about his prognosis and anticipating a full recovery.

"However, to ensure his successful recovery, they have advised that he take some personal time to complete his healing," Goodkin wrote. "Therefore, he will not be on social media, email and telephone for the immediate future. We are asking that you please respect his doctor’s wishes and give him the space and privacy he needs at this time.
