North Haven Man Sentenced In Sexual Assault Of Minor: Officials

Officials said the victim was helped by a mail carrier who noticed they were upset and helped them report the crime to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A North Haven man has been sentenced to serve eight years in prison in connection with the sexual assault of a minor, according to officials.

Ronald Iannucci Jr., 53, was sentenced Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Thomas V. O’Keefe Jr. to 40 years in prison, suspended after eight years served, followed by 20 years of probation, John P. Doyle Jr., State’s Attorney for the New Haven Judicial District, announced.

Iannucci pleaded guilty on April 1 in Superior Court in Meriden to four counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts risk of injury to a minor. He was arrested in Sept. 2022 and was charged with 10 counts of second-degree sexual assault and 13 counts of risk of injury to a minor.

“A police investigation showed the defendant repeatedly sexually abused a boy when he was 14 and 15 years old,” officials wrote in a news release from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

In his sentencing remarks, O'Keefe proclaimed that he had “no doubt that the defendant did everything he was accused of,” according to the news release.

“Judge O'Keefe also noted that the defendant was given opportunity to accept responsibility at sentencing and chose not to do so,” the news release states. “In addressing the victim directly, Judge O'Keefe noted ‘you did absolutely nothing wrong and should have nothing to be ashamed of. You are a brave, young guy.’”

Doyle thanked the North Haven Police Department and Wallingford Police Department for their investigation of the case.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant States Attorney Nichol Peco and Deputy Assistant States Attorney Michael Errichetti, with the assistance of Investigator Lisa Fernandes.

At the sentencing hearing, Peco noted the “people who helped the victim, including a mailman who noticed the child was upset and helped him report the crime to the police and a school resource officer,” according to the news release.

She also credited the North Haven Police Department for their “excellent investigation of the matter,” the news release states.
