While crews were en route to the scene, officials said a second 911 call reported the patient was unresponsive and not breathing.
“FF/Paramedic Pranger and FF/Paramedic Panek were assigned to R1 and arrived on scene as the second 911 call was placed, accounting for a 4-minute response time,” officials wrote in a post on the North Haven Fire Department’s Facebook page. “Bystanders had begun to provide CPR and a nearby AED was used prior to arrival. FF’s immediately established IO access (think IV but in the bone), utilized a Lifepak 15 to view the heart rhythm and found the patient to be in a rhythm not sustainable to life which was Torsades.

“The patient was defibrillated at 200 joules which restored palpable pulses and breathing. Additional Advanced Life Support procedures continued including medications, post-arrest care, IV access, 12 lead EKG, etc. including immediate transport to a nearby hospital.”
Officials said that as of Monday, the patient remained hospitalized and continuing with recovery.
“Through the efforts of a 911 dispatcher, FF/Paramedics, Police Officers to control the scene, and Nelson Ambulance to provide immediate transport, this patient was provided the best possible chance to make a full recovery,” officials wrote. “Arrival times matter, along with the availability of FF’s to respond in a timely manner from a close proximity. Great job FF Pranger and FF Panek and to all involved!”
