An adult and four children under the age of six safely exited the home after smoke detectors alerted them to the fire on the first floor, Maggio said.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and limit any damage to the room of origin, Maggio said.

Smoke damage was also limited to the new addition to the home due to plastic sheeting in place during the ongoing construction project, which created a barrier that enabled the residents to re-enter the home after the fire, according to Maggio.
Crews from both the Norwalk Fire Department and Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department helped extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported, Maggio said.
The Rowayton Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire, according to Maggio.
