Alexander Capodonna, 90, Architectural, Set and Fashion Designer

A forward observer in the Pacific Island campaigns, he was awarded the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

Alexander B. Capodonna, 90, was born in Waterbury, CT on Aug. 4, 1924, the son of Alex and Lena (Varanelli) Capodonna. He died at Norwalk Hospital on Feb. 17, 2015 after a brief illness. He is survived by his cousin, Vance Fazzino, friend and partner, niece and nephews Fred Gravino of Cheshire, Eleanor Ramey of Trumbull and Ronald Gravino of Colonia, New Jersey.

A veteran of WWII, he served as a forward observer in the Pacific Island campaigns and was awarded the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal and several other awards and commendations.

A graduate of Parsons School of design, he had a varied career as an artist and designer and worked in the fields of architectural design, costume and set design for theater and fashion design in Paris and New York. He lived and worked in the city and moved to Norwalk in 1972. He was Vice President of Vance Alexander Interiors, Darien, CT.

Respecting his wishes, all funeral services will be private.
