
John A. Mendence, age 89, of Norwalk, died Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of Theresa Sciarra Mendence. John was born on November 12, 1921 in Providence, RI, son of the late Joseph and Julia Mendence and had lived in Norwalk for most of his life. He served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy Seabees and worked for many years locally as a carpenter for Local 210. Prior to his career in carpentry John was a professional boxer. He fought under the name of Johnny Terriano in Rhode Island, Connecticut and at Madison Square Garden in New York.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son Philip, daughter-in-law Francine, granddaughters Danielle, Kasey, Kristen and Caitlin Mendence, and several nieces and nephews.
