NORWALK, CT — Crews extinguished an electrical fire that broke out Monday night at a vacant warehouse in Norwalk, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Adam Markowitz said a structure fire was reported just before 7 p.m. in a two-story vacant warehouse on Wilton Avenue.

When firefighters arrived at the warehouse, they found smoke coming from the second floor of the building, Markowitz said.

Crews then forced a door open and determined the blaze was an electrical fire with a large amount of arcing coming from inside the building, according to Markowitz.

Firefighters were not able to enter the building until an electric company arrived to secure the power, Markowitz said.

Meanwhile, a fire department connection was supplied allowing the department to charge the sprinkler system and flow water onto the fire until the power was secured, according to Markowitz.

Once the electric company shut off the power, the remaining fire was extinguished and the building was ventilated, Markowitz said.

According to Markowitz, the fire "required extensive overhaul."

No injuries were reported and crews left the area around 10:15 p.m.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire, Markowitz said.
