Fast-Acting Police Officer Stops Wrong-Way Driver In Norwalk

The incident occurred last week at an I-95 off-ramp, according to authorities.

NORWALK, CT — On Friday, Norwalk Police Officer Brett Deri helped to thwart a potentially serious crash when he stopped a confused driver from entering I-95 in the wrong direction.

The incident occurred at the northbound off-ramp at the Fairfield Avenue exit of I-95 in South Norwalk.

"Officer Deri acted quickly and was able to safely stop the vehicle just before it entered the I-95 travel lanes, preventing a potentially serious crash," Norwalk police officials wrote on X.

The incident was captured on video by the state's Wrong-Way Driver Detection System, "which continues to be an important tool in identifying and preventing dangerous situations on our roadways."

"We remind all motorists to remain alert, pay close attention to roadway signage, and obey all traffic laws to help keep everyone safe," officials said.
