NORWALK, CT — A family-run carpet store located near the Wilton border is closing after more than four decades in Norwalk.

James Vecchiariello, co-owner of Dorello Carpets & Area Rugs, said he has personally co-owned the business for 41 years, taking over from his father who owned it for three years prior.

"We're getting older," Vecchiariello said to Patch. "It's time to enjoy our lives."

Located at 594 Main Avenue near the Walmart shopping center, signs advertising a retirement sale could be seen posted to the windows of the building Tuesday afternoon, which noted "everything must go!"

According to Vecchiariello, the decision to retire a little sooner than originally planned was prompted by interest in the location from a buyer.

"It's probably a few years earlier than I would've expected," Vecchiariello said, "but [the interest] is there now, and we'll see what happens...it's a little bittersweet because, I have to say, we have great clients here. I like what I do."

Vecchiariello said the high visibility of the store's current location on Main Avenue has likely been a factor in the store's longevity, as well as its legacy and the great staff working there.

He also thanked his customers for being so loyal to him over the years, many of whom have visited the store since they were young and have now been able to direct their children to the business.

"It's kind of a cool thing," Vecchiariello said. "It was a great run. It was really a great run."
