NORWALK, CT — Popular grocery chain Stew Leonard's has announced a number of fun "Halloween happenings" scheduled to take place at its Norwalk store this October.

"Generations of families have been making Stew Leonard's part of their holiday meal celebrations," Bell said to Patch. "Offering fun, and many times free, events at the store is a way of giving back to our customers."

In addition to family-friendly activities, the company expects to sell a large number of pumpkins at its Norwalk and other stores in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

"Stew Leonard's eight food stores will sell more than a half a million pumpkins this fall," Bell said, "including mini-pumpkins, sugar pumpkins, gourds and gourmet pumpkins."

According to Bell, pumpkins have already started to arrive at the stores and are sourced from local pumpkin growers, including Geremia Greenhouse in Wallingford and Dzen Farms in Ellington, as well as Hapco Farms on Long Island.

While the store is looking forward to every event planned for October, Bell noted the trick or treat event scheduled for Oct. 21 is one of the company's favorite days of the year.

"We love seeing the kids in their costumes," Bell said.
