NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk man accused of discharging a firearm that struck a dog during a dispute was arrested Wednesday night, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said officers were called to an Old Saugatuck Road home just before 7 p.m. after receiving a report of a dispute in which a shot was fired.

When officers arrived in the area, they found a large brown pit bull with a gunshot wound to its shoulder, according to Podgorski.

An initial investigation revealed Jeffrey Vigil, 52, of Norwalk, was involved in a disturbance when the dog bit him on the leg, Podgorski said.

According to Podgorski, Vigil discharged a firearm during the incident, striking the dog, then fled from the area before officers arrived.

Detectives recovered one 9mm shell casing at the home, Podgorski said.

Shortly after Vigil's vehicle information was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies, he was found by Greenwich police with a Glock firearm in his possession, according to Podgorski.

He was taken to Greenwich Hospital for treatment and later processed at the Norwalk Police Department, Podgorski said.

Vigil was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal violation of a restraining order and disorderly conduct.

His bond was set at $150,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, according to Podgorski.
