Moped Operator Killed In Crash, ID Released By Norwalk Police

The crash occurred Sunday and police are investigating.

NORWALK, CT — A moped operator, Jose Olavarria. Olavarria, 52, of Norwalk, died after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday, police said.

At 3:51 a.m. police received multiple 911 calls reporting a moped was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of West Avenue and Reed Street.

Norwalk Police, Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Services were responded and began providing medical aid to the operator of the moped, police said.

Olavarria was taken to Norwalk Hospital by ambulance, where he later died. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene.

The Crash Reconstruction Unit responded along with the Crime Scene Unit to process the scene. Crash Reconstruction Unit Officers are actively investigating.
