Norwalk Election Results 2023: Rilling Projected Winner As Mayor

Thousands of Norwalk residents have cast their votes in the 2023 municipal election in a number of key races.

NORWALK, CT — Incumbent Harry Rilling, a Democrat, is the projected winner on election night after declaring victory Tuesday night in the city's mayoral race, according to The Norwalk Hour.

Rilling was projected to defeat challenger Vincent Scicchitano, a Republican, and secure his sixth term, according to unofficial results. Scicchitano conceded shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Hour reports.

Candidates running unopposed in Norwalk were Richard McQuaid, who was on the ballot as both a Democrat and Republican, for town clerk and Mary Ellen Flaherty-Ludwig, a Democrat, for the Board of Education in District E, as well as some candidates for commissioner and treasurer in four of the city's taxing districts.

Unofficial vote totals were not yet available on the Connecticut Secretary of State's website just before midnight on election night.

Mayor

The Democratic candidate is Harry Rilling and the Republican candidate is Vincent Scicchitano. Rilling is also running as a Working Families Party candidate.

City Treasurer

The Democratic candidate is Donna King and the Republican candidate is John Cardamone Sr.

Town Clerk

The lone candidate is Richard McQuaid, who is on the ballot as both a Democrat and Republican.

City Sheriff

The Democratic candidate is Robert Burgess, the Republican candidate is Ronald Paladino and the Independent candidate is Katherine Price Snedaker.

Selectmen

The Democratic candidates are Andy Garfunkel and Samuel Pride. The Republican candidates are Shannon O'Toole Giandurco and Kathryn Angela Martino. The Independent candidates are Joseph Tamburri and David Davidson.

Councilmen-At-Large

The Democratic and Working Families Party candidates are: Nora Niedzielski-Eichner, Josh Goldstein, Barbara Smyth, Gregory Burnett Sr. and Johan Lopez.

The Republican candidates are: John Levin, Enrique Santiago, Luis Estrella, Richard Bonenfant and Glenn Iannaccone.

The Independent candidates are: Erik Anderson, Patricia Venneri Agudow, Jo Bennett, Richard Bonenfant and Eric Vitaglione.

Councilmen District A

The Democratic candidates are: Nicol Demae Ayers and Jalin Sead. Sead is also the Working Families Party candidate. The Republican and Independent candidate is Tricia Massucco.

Councilmen District B

The Democratic candidates are Darlene Young and Dajuan Wiggins Sr. Young is also the Working Families Party candidate.

The Republican and Independent candidate is Donna Smirniotopoulos.

Councilmen District C

The Democratic and Working Families Party candidates are Melissa Murray and Jennifer McMurrer. The Republican candidate is Read Auerbach, and the Independent candidate is Carl Gerard Cooke.

Councilmen District D

The Democratic candidates are Douglas Sutton and Jan Degenshein. The Republican and Independent candidates are Heather Dunn and Bryan Meek.

Councilmen District E

The Democratic candidates are Lisa Shanahan and James Frayer. Shanahan is also the Working Families Party candidate.

The Republican candidates are Jay Parisi and Ernest DesRochers. The Independent candidates are Denise Brown and DesRochers.

Board of Education District A

The Democratic candidate is Samantha Pleasants and the Republican and Independent candidate is Alexandra Kemeny.

Board of Education District B

The Democratic candidate is Howard White and the Republican and Independent candidate is Rasheemah Richardson.

Board of Education District C

The Democratic and Working Families Party candidate is Diana Carpio, and the Republican and Independent candidate is Nicole Therese Hampton.

Board of Education District D

The Democratic and Working Families Party candidate is Ashley Gulyas, and the Republican candidate is Douglas Hempstead.

Board of Education District E

The lone candidate is Mary Ellen Flaherty-Ludwig, a Democrat.

Constable

The Democratic candidates are: Ernest Dumas, Darius Williams, Johnie Mae Weldon and Jalin Sead.

The Republican candidates are: Peter Bondi, Jeffery Dewitt, Ray Cooke and Greg Helms.

The Independent candidates are: Tysen Canevari, Joseph Tamburri, Jeffrey Rollings and Erik Anderson.

First Taxing District Commissioner, Treasurer

For commissioner, the lone candidate is Thomas Cullen, a Republican. For treasurer, the Democratic candidate is Rosa Murray and the Republican candidate is John Miller.

Second Taxing District Commissioner, Treasurer

For commissioner, the Democratic candidates are Sonja Oliver and David Westmoreland and the Republican candidate is Maria Borges Lopez. For treasurer, the lone candidate is Darlene Young, a Democrat.

Third Taxing District Commissioner, Treasurer

Pamela Parkington, who is the ballot as a Democrat and Republican, is the lone candidate for commissioner. The lone candidate for treasurer is Read Auerbach, a Republican.

Sixth Taxing District Commissioner, Treasurer

The lone candidate for commissioner is Jody Sattler, a Democrat, and the lone candidate for treasurer is Gilbert Kernan, a Republican.

Ballot Question

Additionally, Norwalk residents will vote "yes" or "no" on the following question: "Shall the Charter be revised to clarify and streamline government operations and standards, maintain a two-year mayoral and council term, expand the police and fire commissions from two to four members, establish procedures to enhance public participation in the budget process, and require charter review every five years with an initial review in two years?"
