Norwalk Home 'Significantly Damaged' By Basement Fire, 2 Displaced: FD

Fire officials said two residents were displaced by a fire that "significantly damaged" a 2.5-story home in Norwalk.

NORWALK, CT — Two residents were displaced by a fire that "significantly damaged" a 2.5-story Norwalk home Monday night, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Deputy Chief Adam Markowitz said crews were called to a structure fire on Silvermine Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

Initial reports said the house was on fire and the home was being evacuated, Markowitz said.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the house with fire venting from a side entrance, according to Markowitz.

The fire was extinguished in about 45 minutes and contained to the basement, where it had originated, and first floor. The rest of the home suffered significant smoke and heat damage, Markowitz said.

No injuries were reported. The home was determined to be unfit for occupancy and two residents were displaced as a result, according to Markowitz.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire, Markowitz said.
