Norwalk Man Accused Of 2024 Carjacking: Police

The incident occurred on Burwell Street in Norwalk, according to authorities.

NORWALK, CT — A 27-year-old Norwalk man has been arrested on a warrant in connection with a carjacking in November 2024 on Burwell Street in Norwalk, according to police.

Michael Maldonado was arrested by Norwalk police on Thursday, and was charged with the following:

  • Robbery by carjacking
  • Unlawful restraint, 1st degree
  • Criminal mischief, 2nd degree
  • Larceny of a motor vehicle
  • Violation of protective order

Maldonado is being held in lieu of bail of $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court at a later date.

The incident occurred on Nov. 17, when officers responded to Burwell Street at 10:30 p.m. on a report of a disturbance and possible attempted kidnapping.

"The suspect, who was masked, smashed the window of a parked car that was occupied by two people in the backseat," wrote Norwalk Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts in a statement. "One party was able to get out of the car prior to the suspect driving away, but the second person was still in the backseat. The suspect then pulled over and ran from the area before officers arrived on scene."

Police were able to identify the suspect as Maldonado, who was known to one of the victims, Evarts said, and a warrant was obtained.
