Norwalk Oyster Festival: Saturday Activities Canceled Due To Weather

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Oyster Festival will not be held on Saturday due to the possibility of severe weather in the area, according to officials.

In an update shared on social media, the City of Norwalk Emergency Management Team said festival activities were canceled due to forecasted severe storms, lightning and tornadic activity.

The festival will reopen on Sunday at 11 a.m. Admission tickets for Saturday will be valid for Sunday entry.

"Please refer to our website and social media for further details," officials said. "We appreciate your understanding and cooperation at this time."

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front this afternoon. The main threat is damaging winds, although large hail and an isolated tornado are possible.

In addition, heavy rain will likely produce areas of flooding, along with localized flash flooding.

There is a chance of severe weather anytime after noon and up until 8 p.m. Saturday, according to meteorologists.

Hosted by the Norwalk Seaport Association, the Oyster Festival is the main fundraiser for both the association and Sheffield Island Lighthouse.

The three-day event celebrates the maritime heritage of Norwalk every September and is known for its music, wide variety of entertainment, family fun, delicious food, children's rides and the New England Craft Village, according to additional press materials provided by the Seaport Association.

The festival is open on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
