Norwalk Police Remind Residents Not To Use Golf Carts On Public Roads

NORWALK, CT — As residents head to local golf courses this summer and take advantage of the warmer weather, police remind drivers not to use golf carts on public roads in Norwalk due to the danger they pose to everyone on the road.

In a Facebook post this week, police said the Department of Motor Vehicles and the state's courts have generally concluded golf carts are unsuitable for use on public roads.

"For this reason, the department does not register these vehicles," police said on Facebook. "Consequently, it is generally illegal to use golf carts on public roads."

According to police, using golf carts on public roads poses "an imminent and inherent danger" to both the golf cart user and other drivers and passengers on the road.

"Norwalk police are committed to keeping its residents and visitors safe at all times," police said on Facebook. "We will be proactively patrolling and will maintain vigilance in our duty to protect life and enforce any traffic laws that are being violated."
