Norwalk-based Republicans and Democrats alike are trickling in and out of polling locations across the city Tuesday afternoon to vote in the primary election for candidates running in state and federal elections.

The traffic at Voting District 142C () has been slow, according to Jared Schmitt, director of research of the House Republican Caucus and a supporter of House Republican Leader Larry Cafero's campaign.

Schmitt was giving out free bottles of water to voters on behalf of the Cafero campaign with Jackie Effren, who has been visitng various polling locations in Norwalk and New Canaan.

"I think [redistricting] has confused a lot of voters," she told Patch. "There's been a steady stream at polls in New Canaan, but a lot of voters that show up at Fox Run are being sent to and a lot of voters that show up at West Rocks are being sent to Wolfpit."

Voters may have noticed that Cafero isn't on Tuesday' primary election ballot, so why is he giving out free water? "It's tradition," Schmitt said. "We did it two years ago and two years before that."

Polls will stay open until 8 p.m. To find your polling location, .
