NORWALK, CT — Police warn Norwalk residents to be on the lookout for software and computer scams after a local senior citizen was recently scammed out of more than $10,000.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts said a senior citizen in the Norwalk area was recently contacted by someone posing as a Microsoft representative about an alleged software renewal issue.

The representative was able to convince the senior citizen to remove over $10,000 from their bank account and deliver the cash in a package to a party who would ultimately come to their house to pick up the package, according to Evarts.

"Residents should be hyper vigilant against software [and] computer scams," Evarts said in a news release, "especially any that encourage you to pay a fee, ask for cash payment and hide the information from others."
