Boston police tried to disperse the crowd but were met with resistance, which included fireworks being thrown and people jumping on police vehicles and striking the windows, Podgorski said.
One of the fireworks thrown during the incident caused a Boston Police Department vehicle to ignite and eventually become fully engulfed in flames, according to Podgorski.
Boston police were able to identify the person responsible for the vehicle arson as David Antonio Moran-Chavez, 19, of Norwalk, according to Podgorski.
Norwalk and Boston police worked together for several weeks to gather additional information in preparation for Moran-Chavez's arrest, Podgorski said.
On Thursday, Norwalk police and members of the Norwalk Emergency Services Unit Tactical Response Team assisted in the arrest of Moran-Chavez and a search of his home, where several items of evidence related to the incident in Boston were found, according to Podgorski.
Boston police said officers and detectives methodically identified and followed evidence related to the street takeover incident and worked with several law enforcement partners in the New England area. They also received support from residents and businesses through video and information sharing.
Moran-Chavez was charged in Connecticut as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Massachusetts. His bond was set at $500,000, according to Podgorski.
Boston police thanked the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office for working closely with the department on the case, as well as the Norwalk Police Department, Randolph Police, Massachusetts State Police, the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Stamford/Norwalk Judicial State Attorney's Office for their assistance.
Boston police also noted two Rhode Island residents were recently arrested in connection to the same October street takeover incident.
