Orlando “Al” Mazzello, 97, U.S. Army Veteran

Orlando "Al" Mazzello, 97, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013.

Orlando “Al” Mazzello, 97, died Thursday, January 17 at the Aurora Care Center in Norwalk.  He was the husband of the late Marie Chiappetta Mazzello.  Mr. Mazzello was born on October 7, 1915 in Ponza, Italy, son of the late John and Theresa Mazzello and had lived locally for most of his life. 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WW II and was retired from Grand Union where he had worked as a butcher.  He loved the outdoors and gardening, watching UCONN women’s basketball, football games, and spending time with his loving family.     

Survivors include a son, Anthony M. Mazzello and his wife Diana of Norwalk, a daughter, Teri Mazzello of Bridgeport, grandchildren John Mazzello and his wife Erika, and Michael Mazzello, brother-in-law John Musolino, sisters-in-law Roseann Malanowski and Sue Chiappetta, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 23, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.  There are no visiting hours.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew Church.  To leave an online condolence, please go to magnerfuneralhome.com
