In a news release Wednesday, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said the man was struck by a vehicle Tuesday just before 6 p.m. on Connecticut Avenue.

Podgorski said at that time police were actively working to confirm the pedestrian's identity.

According to Podgorski, crews from the Norwalk police and fire departments and Norwalk Hospital EMS were called to the area, where officers found a man in the westbound lanes of Connecticut Avenue and began providing emergency medical care.

The man sustained serious injuries and was taken to Norwalk Hospital by an ambulance, Podgorski said.

A preliminary investigation determined the pedestrian was walking south across the westbound lanes of Connecticut Avenue outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle, according to Podgorski.

The driver of the vehicle remained in the area, Podgorski said.
