NORWALK, CT — Out of an abundance of caution, security has been increased at Norwalk schools Wednesday as police investigate a threat made on social media, according to the department.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts said the department received information about a threat against schools late Tuesday evening.

According to Evarts, the threat did not specify any specific school, town or city, however it is being investigated "with the utmost priority, as the nature of any school threat can never be ruled out without exhaustive investigative measures."

In response, police have increased security presence at Norwalk schools and "are steadfast at keeping our students and staff safe," Evarts said.

Evarts also noted police have been working with various agencies, including Norwalk Public Schools, to bring this investigation to a timely closure.

"We understand the high level of stress this can cause for parents, students, and all community members, so we will be as transparent as possible to put minds at ease," Evarts said in a news release. "That being said, at this moment in time this threat is actively being investigated and there is not any further information to add at this time."
