NORWALK, CT — A structure fire was extinguished at a multi-unit motel in Norwalk early Friday morning, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Adam Markowitz said crews were called to a one-story, multi-unit motel on Westport Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

The department received multiple reports of smoke coming from the roof of the motel with flames visible from an apartment, Markowitz said.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the entire ridgeline of the 12-unit wing of the motel with fire starting to vent out of the end unit, Markowitz said.

As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames in one of the units, crews searched the other 11 units. The fire was ultimately contained to the unit where it originated, according to Markowitz.
