NORWALK, CT — Wegmans Food Markets will host an open interview hiring event this week for its new Norwalk store, the company's first in Connecticut, ahead of the location's planned opening at 675 Connecticut Avenue later this year.

In an email to Patch, Store Manager Emily Gee confirmed Tuesday the Norwalk location was still on track to open this summer.

"Construction is on schedule and progressing well toward a summer 2025 opening," Gee said to Patch.

As they prepare for the opening, Gee and her team will host a hiring event Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Norwalk hiring office, located at 40 Richards Avenue, Suite 220, to fill over 200 open positions.

Part and full-time positions are available throughout the store for applicants ages 18 and over, including customer service roles in merchandising, service, culinary and perishable departments, as well as entry-level management positions in various areas, according to additional press materials provided by the store.

After completing an application, attendees will be interviewed on the spot, however job seekers are encouraged to fill out an application online in advance of the event.

"Working at Wegmans is more than just a job, it's a place where you can build a life-long career," Gee said. "Many of our employees started with the company in high school and have gone on to work in leadership roles throughout the company. As a family company, we have always believed we can achieve our goals only if we first fulfill the individual needs of our people."

According to Gee, the company is always looking for people who share Wegmans' values of respect, caring, high standards, making a difference and empowerment when considering job candidates.

"The right candidates are also passionate about food, people and giving back to their community," Gee said.

Paid training for all positions will begin immediately at a Wegmans store in Harrison, N.Y. Hiring for additional part-time positions, including cashiers, will take place at a later date.

In addition to the hiring event, the Norwalk team will begin offering walk-in interviews every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interested candidates will have the opportunity to fill out an application and be interviewed the same day.

Walk-in Wednesdays will continue through Feb. 26. More information is available by calling the hiring office at 203-299-3333.

Greater Norwalk Chamber President Shannon O'Toole Giandurco said the chamber was thrilled to have Wegmans join the Connecticut Avenue corridor due to the positive impact it should have on other businesses in the area.

"This addition will bring more visitors to the area and boost the local business scene," O'Toole Giandurco said to Patch. "We're expect a positive ripple effect, increasing foot traffic, sales, and opportunities for nearby businesses. Wegmans' quality and customer focus perfectly align with Norwalk's vision for a vibrant, thriving community."

With the long-planned Wegmans expected to open this summer and other notable businesses such as Target having announced their intention to open soon in Norwalk, O'Toole Giandurco said the chamber is also excited about the momentum in the city's business community heading into 2025.

"New additions like Wegmans, Target and restaurants highlight the strength of our local economy and confidence in Norwalk as a hub for growth," O'Toole Giandurco said. "We're committed to supporting this progress and providing a welcoming environment for businesses of all sizes."
