Amity School Superintendent Budget: Nearly 3% Increase Proposed

Salary and benefit costs are among the primary cost changes, but special education costs are expected to drop significantly.

ORANGE, CT — Amity Regional Schools Superintendent Jennifer Byars proposed a $1.56 million (2.93 percent) budget increase for the upcoming fiscal year.

“This proposed budget represents the necessary resources to maintain the high quality of education that we are expected to provide to Amity students,” Byers wrote in her proposal.

  • Salaries increasing by $980,494
  • Benefits increase by $637,498
  • Special education transportation/tuition decreasing by $496,597
  • Debt service decreasing by $67,774
  • Textbooks, supplies decreasing by $19,634
  • Utilities and transportation costs increase by $108,508

Member town allocations would increase by about $1.62 million, or 3.1 percent. Part of the reason for the difference is changes in the state's excess cost revenue formula for the district.

Student enrollment is expected to increase by 31 students.

Byars proposed increasing certified positions by 3.1 full-time equivalents, mostly due to changes in grant funding.
