Donna Mitsock, 71, of Milford, Connecticut, beloved wife of Mark Mitsock, passed away on September 6th, 2025. Born on May 22, 1954, in Lexington, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Julian Horak and the late Jeanne Horak and the third of their seven children.
Donna earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia in 1979. She then pursued graduate studies in medical ethics at Georgetown University’s Kennedy Institute of Ethics in Washington, D. C. It was there she met her future husband Mark, a fellow philosophy graduate student at Georgetown. They were married in 1984. She taught philosophy as an adjunct faculty member at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and Mary Mount College in Arlington, Virginia. She served from 1986 to 1987 as the Assistant Director of the New Jersey Commission on Legal and Ethical Problems in Health Care in Trenton, New Jersey. After she and Mark moved to Milford in 1988, Donna pursued a career in the software industry as a trainer and a technical writer.
Donna was a passionate defender of the right to personal freedom and autonomy in all areas of life, especially in regard to health care. She believed that all persons have a right to live in democratically governed societies with democratic institutions, so that people can determine their own futures. Anyone who knew Donna will also recall her laugh, her irreverent and well-placed quips, and her commitment to the work of caring for those who needed it most, including family members now deceased.
