Obituary: Ethel Marie Bitzer, 93, of Orange
Ethel was a dedicated teacher in the West Haven Public School system and also a member of the Holy Infant Women's Guild for many years.
ORANGE, CT - (From West Haven Funeral Home) Ethel Marie Bitzer, age 93, of Orange, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Born in New Haven, a daughter to the late John & Madeline (Tiernan) Bitzer, Ethel was predeceased by her sisters, Roberta & Kathryn Bitzer.
She is survived by her loving Goddaughter, Diane Lewis of Orange, her cousins Mark Lewis of Milford, John Lewis of Ansonia, Mary (Steven) Grening of Torrington, Brian (Joan) Lewis of Old Saybrook, Alicia Tiernan-Smith, Robert Smith both of Florida.
Ethel will be lovingly missed by many other extended family members and cherished friends.
Ethel worked as a teacher for the West Haven Board of Education for many years, teaching specifically at the former Thompson Elementary School.
She was a member of the Holy Infant Women’s Guild for many years, and an active parishioner, as well as a former Sunday School teacher.
Ethel was an avid traveler and looked forward to her yearly adventure to various countries around the world. She volunteered in Bosnia, for the St. Joseph’s Relief Organization.
An animal lover, she will be missed by her dog, Jimmy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Infant Church, on Monday, February 28 at 11AM.
Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ethel’s name should be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
