Obituary: James Anthony “Sonny” Simone, 92, of Orange

Sonny, a proud U.S. Army veteran and devoted family man, worked for United Illuminating at the New Haven Harbor Station for many years.

ORANGE, CT - (From West Haven Funeral Home) James Anthony “Sonny” Simone, age 92, of Orange passed away on March 2, 2022. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa DiNicola Simone.

James was born in New Haven, son of the late Anthony and Margaret Cerrone Simone. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Woodward and her husband Thomas, his grandsons Tyler and Jake Woodward all of Orange, his sister Marie DiNicola and her husband Vincent of Guilford, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful four-legged grand dog Prince.

Sonny was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He served his country for 4 years. 39 months of that time, he was stationed in Germany. For 43 years, Sonny worked for United Illuminating at the New Haven Harbor Station.

He retired in 1995. Even into his 80’s, he enjoyed detailing cars. Sonny was a big fan of the New York Yankees and loved to listen to country music.

His greatest joy was spending time with his grandsons. He spent countless hours watching cartoons with each of them.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home Wednesday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church at 10am.
