Obituary: Susan Foyer Smith, 69, of Orange
Susan, along with cherishing her family and beloved animals, she was a dedicated teacher in the Orange Public School System for 34 years.

ORANGE, CT - (From Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home) Susan (Sue) Foyer Smith, of Orange, passed away on June 17, 2022 after a lifelong illness, Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.
Born on September 15, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Audrey Mitchell Foyer. Susan attended the University of New Haven and pursued a Master’s Degree in elementary education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a sixth-year degree in Advanced Teaching from Sacred Heart University.
Susan taught in the Orange Public School System for 34 years before retiring in 2009. While teaching, Susan was involved with many school events and committees. After retiring, Susan became a caregiver for aging family members. She also joined the Orange Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). She participated by taking a move active role in emergency preparedness projects in her community.
Susan grew up in Orange alongside her family she loved so much. She enjoyed the outdoors, walking with her dog, going to antique markets, working out at the gym, and gathering with friends.
Each morning she would attend to the countless animals on the family farm. She was a huge animal lover and cared for many pets during her lifetime.
Susan loved to travel and enjoyed choosing a new destination to tour each year. Her most heartwarming trip was when she and her husband traveled to China to adopt their loving daughter, Ashley.
In addition to her devoted husband of 43 years, Robert Smith, and daughter Ashley and her husband Brian Coate, she is survived by her brother Donald Foyer, Sr. and his wife Barbara, her nephew Donald Foyer, Jr., and grandnieces Leia and Violet Foyer.
Her parents, her brother Thomas Foyer, and infant niece Cheryl Ann Foyer all predeceased her.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 20th in Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange. Friends may visit with Susan’s family in church prior to Mass, from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
Donations in remembrance of Susan can be made to the American Autoimmune Related Disease Association, Inc. (AARDA), 19176 Hall Road Suite 130, Clinton Township, MI 48038, or to a farm animal rescue sanctuary of choice.
