Orange Carjacking Suspect Arrested After Milford Crash: PD

The man violently pulled a victim from his car and used it as a getaway vehicle, police said.

ORANGE, CT — A man was charged after a violent carjacking at the Home Depot shopping plaza, Jan. 10, according to police.

A Home Depot employee confronted Richard Abely, 39, as he was in the process of stealing more than $1,100 worth of tools, police said.

Abely abandoned most of the items and ran to the parking lot. He had lost the keys to his mother's car, which he took without permission, police said.

Abely violently pulled a 69-year-old man from his car and used it as a getaway vehicle, according to police. The vehicle crashed in Milford and was recovered a short time later.

Police obtained an arrest warrant and arrested Abely Tuesday in Bridgeport. He was charged with robbery, assault on an elderly person and larceny of a motor vehicle. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
