How do you know the local hero?

He is the Chief of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department.

What does the local hero do?

Executive Director - SWRCC (Southwest Regional Communications Center). In other words it is the 911 dispatch for many communities.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

In addition to his paying job he is the Chief of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department he does many things on emergency scenes and behind the scenes that most people do not know about. For example, he spends countless hours working to make sure the radio systems are in working order, he is constantly looking for ways to keep the department up to date with the latest technology while still watching our budget closely. Being a 100% volunteer organization, we rely on donations to purchase our gear and equipment, he works tirelessly to use the donations wisely while maintaining a strict budget. Chief Dumas is typically the first person at the scene of an emergency and the last to leave, even if it is in the wee hours of the morning, or after he has spent a whole day at work (his paying job). Having been a police officer for many years he has a great wealth of knowledge that helps him quickly assess a scene (fire, car accident, etc) and render appropriate assistance immediately. His work ethic, his commitment to his job(s) and his willingness to do what needs to be done, no matter how long it takes makes him a true hero!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

To use a quote that I know..."Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the power they are graced with." (quote by Brodi Ashton). That quote in a nut shell is Chief Vaughan Dumas

Thank you for all you do, Vaughan I. Dumas!
