Crews Save Deer Stuck On Frozen Lake Zoar, Officials Say

The rescue took place near Fiddlehead Road and Freeman Road on Sunday, officials said.

OXFORD, CT — Firefighters rescued a deer that had become stranded and exhausted on thin ice on Lake Zoar over the weekend, officials said.

According to the Quaker Farms Fire Company, crews were dispatched Sunday, Dec. 28, to the area of Fiddlehead Road and Freeman Road after a report of a deer stuck on the ice. When firefighters arrived, they found the animal about 600 feet from shore and unable to stand due to exhaustion.

Firefighters put on cold-water rescue suits and used an inflatable rescue boat to reach the deer. The animal was safely brought back to shore and turned over to Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, officials said.
