Fire damaged a home at about 7:10 p.m. Monday at 16 Beechwood Lane. No one was injured in the blaze.
The house suffered heavy smoke damage and the kitchen was heavily damaged. Ridgefield fire marshals are investigating the fire, and it appears at this early stage it started on the stove.
“No one was injured,” said Fire Chief Heather Burford, who said when the babysitter returned home with the children they knew there was a fire before they walked inside. They could hear the smoke detectors in the driveway, and they saw smoke when they opened the garage door. The home had no pets and no one was inside.
“They did the right thing. They stayed outside and the 13-year-old called 911. She stayed on the line with the dispatcher until we had everything,” Chief Burford said.
Ridgefield Fire Department responded with three engines, two tankers, a rescue truck and an ambulance. “It was a quick knock-down,” Burford said. “It was isolated to the kitchen, and this is a good time to remind people you never leave cooking food unattended.”
