Chain's Gas Station Plan Part of Larger Expansion

Stop & Shop's plan to put in a new gas station in Ridgefield is just one of several efforts it made throughout Connecticut this year.

The proposal to put in a new gas station at 65 Danbury Road is part of a larger effort by the supermarket chain giant , which has put out several new and similar proposals around Connecticut this year.

In Ridgefield, the —a parcel of land across from a busy shopping plaza and downhill from a sharp curve on Danbury Road—as well as its single access point.

Yet some communities welcomed the chain gas station when they were implemented. The stations offer discounts on gasoline depending on how many points a customer can rack up on their Stop & Shop card. However, across from Copps Hill Plaza already participates in the reward system, which perhaps further diminishes the need for a Stop & Shop-branded gas station to be erected in Ridgefield.

Here’s a brief rundown on some recent moves Stop & Shop made in Fairfield County towns:

Monroe: The Inlands and Wetlands Commission , but Stop & Shop still needs approval from Monroe’s planning and zoning. Similar to Ridgefield, neighbors near the proposed site at 528 Monroe Turnpike turned out to express their concerns and said they will follow up at their next P&Z hearing.

Branford: Approved a proposal in March. You can find a Stop and Stop gas station there—it seems to be well-received in .

Cheshire: Stop & Shop this past August. This larger gas station is expected (Ridgefield’s was planned to have four).

Planning & Zoning will meet at the Town Hall Annex tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. Meeting minutes state that they have requested  a “Draft Resolution of Denial for Certificate of Location Approval” at last week’s meeting.
