Great Dane Turns Heads on Ridgefield's Main Street

Donna Coviello and her 192-pound Great Dane named Bentley attract plenty of attention on their jaunts through town.

"Can I take a picture with your dog?"

Ridgefielder Donna Coviello granted multiple requests for photos to locals walking on Main Street in Ridgefield Tuesday afternoon.

Bentley posed amiably for photos, nuzzling picture posers with his nose the size of a child's fist. The three-year-old 192-pound charcoal gray Great Dane weighed just 30 pounds when Coviello adopted him at nine weeks old.

"I sometimes have to walk him on the side streets of town rather than Main Street, so he can get some uninterrupted exercise," she said. Her husband, Mike, also plays with him in their fenced-in backyard.

Still, she doesn't mind being stopped.

"He's a great dog and does attract attention," she said, noting that was what was special about owning a Great Dane. And he eats. A lot—about eight cups of dog food a day, she said.
