Burglary Sent Schools into Modified Lockdown Monday

A homeowner-interrupted burglary in Ridgefield resulted in a modified lockdown at Scotts Ridge Middle School and Ridgefield High School.


An interrupted burglary in the Ridgebury section of town resulted in a temporary and modified lockdown of two Ridgefield schools on Monday.

According to police, a resident in the 800-section of North Salem Road/Route 116 encountered a burglar at home at about 11 a.m. The suspect fled the area and the homeowner contacted police, Lt. McAllister said.

There were no weapons presented during the time of the burglary, he said.

As a precaution, both Ridgefield High School and Scotts Ridge Middle School were placed into a modified lockdown, which means students can move freely about the buildings but no visitors are allowed inside.

"We've got so many officers out there right now, those schools are very safe," McAllister said Monday morning.

The lockdown ended shortly after 1 p.m.

A Description of the Suspect

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, about 5'8" in height and of medium build, police said. He was reportedly wearing a dark hoodie sweatshirt.
