Letter: 'Republican Mailer Misrepresents Facts'

"State Representative Berger-Girvalo voted for $560 million tax cut-the largest in history-reducing the tax burden on all of us…"

To the editor:

I am shocked and offended that Bob Hebert, from his campaign, sent a mailer in Ridgefield and to seniors in particular, maligning State Representative Aimee Berger-Girvalo. It is full of misrepresentation.

State Representative Berger-Girvalo voted for $560 million tax cut-the largest in history-reducing the tax burden on all of us. She eliminated pension and annuity taxes for retirees making less than $75k/year. She voted for legislation which approved state tax credits for childcare-benefitting families in Ridgefield and across the state. Lowered the business tax rate for unemployment insurance. Established Jobs CT program-helping companies in target industries earn rebates against insurance premiums and state taxes for meeting job targets. Increased state income tax credit for property owners from $200 to $300. Capped car taxes at 32.46 miles.

These votes put money in the pockets of families, seniors and businesses in Ridgefield. Aimee supported all of them. How does this make Ct. anything but better?

Misrepresentation abounds in this mailer.

That "diesel tax"? Approved when Republicans held the State majorities-including an increase in July 2022- a misrepresentation by Mr. Hebert. If you like bad facts, he asserts that we have one of the highest property tax rates in the nation-yet he knows specifically that towns including Ridgefield, set the property tax rate not Hartford. We set the rate -of which he is a direct contributor and approver of the budget the BOF uses to determine the tax rate. Or did he forget?

I cannot trust Hebert at all based on this mailer. Neither should you.
