Letter: 'State Senator Is Just Right'

To the editor:

We have a second new State Senate District in Ridgefield, the 24th, which is represented by incumbent Julie Kushner. This encompasses the neighborhoods north of Copp’s Hill. That’s good for Ridgefield—we get two State Senators, not one!

Julie is running for re-election on November 8th. I strongly endorse re-electing State Senator Julie. She is a vocal, dedicated supporter of public education, leading the effort not only to increase funding for local public schools, but also to increase funding for school-based mental health services for children, teachers and parents.

As an advocate for women, she is pro-choice and will resist efforts to chip away at CT’s Reproductive Freedom legislation. This bill protects a women’s right to choose in our State. It also shields CT doctors, nurses and providers from the over-reach of other states as well as from prosecution by states who seek to restrict care and assistance for women who leave their jurisdictions.

Julie understands that Ridgefield is concerned about taxes and fiscal health. She passed the largest tax cut in CT’s history while also decreasing CT’s debt and increasing the fund for pension liability.

Julie is mature, sensible and focused on listening to her constituents. In the few months since re-districting, she has embraced Ridgefield by coming to our road races, door knocking our neighborhoods, attending gatherings, and the League of Women Voters debate in addition to other activities.

Support State Senator Julie Kushner for the 24th District. She is just right for Ridgefield.
