​A Look at Kindergarten at Ridgefield Academy

From Ridgefield Academy: Families considering Ridgefield Academy’s kindergarten program for their children are encouraged to schedule their visit promptly! For over forty years, Ridgefield Academy, an independent day school for children in preschool through grade 8, has offered an enriching, full day program, serving children in Fairfield and Westchester counties. The kindergarten experience includes a rich and appropriately challenging curriculum balanced with play and exploration, fostering confidence and a love of learning.

The program is taught by experienced teachers in intimate classroom settings to optimize learning and growth. RA’s approach centers on developing confident and selfdirected learners who are engaged by a dynamic curriculum in a nurturing environment.

Within each subject, faculty teach 21st century skills such as critical thinking, innovation, communication, and collaboration to best prepare our students for a rapidly changing future. Individual and small group instruction enhances personalized learning in the core subjects of reading, writing, math and social studies. Developing non-cognitive capabilities such as interpersonal skills, public speaking, and empathy are also a critical component of the program.

Highlights to RA’s Kindergarten Program include small class sizes with a 9:1 studentteacher ratio, comprehensive curriculum including science, world languages, digital arts, music, physical education, drama, library studies and computer instruction, classes taught by full time, experienced teachers with innovative use of learning materials, parent-teacher conferences twice yearly with narrative progress reports, character development program and a culture of kindness, and five full days per week with care available before and after school.
