Ridgefield FD Responds to Fire on NY Border

Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a blaze on Wakeman Drive in Vista.

The Ridgefield Fire Department responded with local New York fireighters Thursday night to a blaze at a home in Vista, just over the state line.

The Japanese-styled home on four acres sustained major damage in a fire that began around 9:30 p.m. and was extinguished with the help of tankers from neighboring communities.

The fire was initially spotted by a neighbor driving by, according to fire captain, Jeff Peck. No one was home at the time and there were no injuries.

The heavy smoke and flames were brought under control by the Vista Fire Department with assistance from Goldens Bridge, South Salem, New Canaan, Ridgefield and Bedford Hills Fire Departments.

Because there were no hydrants on the wooded property, water transported by tanker was used to put out the fire.

Firefighters had the fire, which caused extensive damage throughout the home, under control at approximately 10:30 pm. 

The exact cause is still under investigation.
