Ridgefield Man Arrested For DUI With Two Children In Backseat

Police pulled over and arrested a man for speeding and driving while intoxicated with his two young children and wife in the car.

Wilton police pulled over a 42-year-old man at 2:13 a.m. Jan. 1 for traveling 61 in a 40 mph zone on Rte. 7, according to police reports. Police said that upon stopping the driver, “he was found to [have] consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving. He was unable to perform the standardized field sobriety tests and was taken into custody,” reports state. Reports identify the man as Thomas Chacko, a Ridgefield resident. The accused said he was at a friend’s house in Wilton and was driving back to Ridgefield, police said.

Also in the car were Chacko’s two daughters, aged 9 and 5, traveling in the backseat, and his wife, who was seated as passenger. After police arrested the accused, the wife, who was deemed sober by police, drove to the station.

Police charged Chacko with speeding, DUI, and risk of injury to minors. He was released on a promised to appear in court.
