BJ's Presence In Rocky Hill Part Of Larger Move By The Company

ROCKY HILL, CT — A recently closed transaction by BJ's Wholesale Club at 490 Book St. in Rocky Hill was the culmination of a four-pronged acquisition of perishable product distribution centers from longtime partner Burris Logistics.

The transaction, valued at $71.6 million according to a Hartford Business Journal report citing town records, allows BJ’s to "insource its perishable supply chain," in the area.

"For more than 20 years, we have enjoyed a true partnership with the Burris Logistics team as we distribute the freshest perishable products to clubs throughout our chain. As we continue to accelerate our new club growth, broaden our footprint, and expand our fresh food offerings, we are excited to insource these capabilities to support our future growth," BJ's President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Eddy said in late January, when the deal was first announced. "I want to thank the entire Burris team for their partnership, and we look forward to welcoming the Burris team members supporting the BJ’s operations to our family."

Burris Logistics is a 90-year-old family business that provides temperature-controlled distribution and logistics services to clients across the United States. For decades, Burris Logistics has partnered with BJ's to support the daily supply chain operations for BJ's perishable business.

The acquisition included four perishable goods distribution centers in Rocky Hill; Orlando, FL; Elkton, MD; and Independence, KY).

The acquisition had been tagged for a second-quarter 2022 closing.
