Car’s Engine Ejected In Crash With Tractor-Trailer: Rocky Hill FD
A crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer, and other vehicles, temporarily closed part of I-91 in Rocky Hill on Monday, officials said.
ROCKY HILL, CT — Firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire after a crash that involved multiple vehicles and closed several lanes on I-91 late Monday night in Rocky Hill, according to fire officials.
The Rocky Hill Fire Department responded around 11:50 p.m. to a report of a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer with a vehicle on fire on I-91 South at the Exit 23 on-ramp.
The first-arriving units found a multi-car accident with debris spread over three lanes of traffic with a light pole down, according to officials.

“There was no fire or extrication of any passengers in the vehicles and only minor injuries were sustained,” officials wrote in a post on the Rocky Hill Fire Department’s Facebook page. “One car involved had the engine, front end, and hood separate from the vehicle, with the engine landing in the center median on the highway. One tractor trailer truck sustained heavy damage and a second tractor trailer truck had a damaged air line from running over debris on the road. A second car sustained three flat tires.
“The highway was shut down for a brief period to enable towing crews to work on getting one of the vehicles out of the ditch. DEEP and Connecticut State DOT arrived on scene to evaluate and clean up the field of debris which contained fluids from the vehicles involved. Once all debris and fluids were cleaned off the highway, a truck laid down sand on the roadway for traction.”
