Post-Crash Rocky Hill Roadwork Finished, Traffic Backed Up: UPDATE

The accident had closed three lanes of the highway and backed up traffic for several miles.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 in Rocky Hill caused some afternoon traffic headaches for motorists in the form of a 7-mile traffic jam, according to the state Department of Transportation.

But necessary road work is complete and the crash scene cleared, according to the state.

The DOT reports the accident was on I-91 South between exits 24 and 23.

As a result, the three left lanes of the highway were initially closed, according to the DOT.

In a subsequent update, the DOT said "emergency road work" was needed at the site.

This caused a massive traffic backup.

The crash was first reported at 3:02 p.m. and the road work was expected to take up to eight hours or less to finish.

By about 5:15 p.m., however, the incident was no longer listed on the DOT's accident report.
