ROCKY HILL, CT — The former Ames headquarters will likely soon be replaced with an apartment complex that includes retail, restaurant and office space, the Hartford Courant reported.

Rocky Hill's planning and zoning committee has approved a permit for developer Belfonti Companies LLC to demolish and replace the 250,000-square-foot Main Street office building that has been closed since 2002, the Courant said.

Last August, the Hartford Business Journal reported that Belfonti's vision for the property is of a town center that would include a pedestrian and bike-friendly downtown area, with green space and a park.

Rocky Hill Mayor Lisa Marotta told the Courant that the mixed-used development "ticks all the boxes."

"This site is right across from our town Green, our Memorial Day parade goes right by it," Marotta said. "Now we've gotten to the point where we won't have to look any longer at the awful blighted building we've been staring at for 20 years."
