New Details Released After Condos In Rocky Hill Evacuated Due To 'Hazardous Condition," Police Say
Residents in surrounding units were asked to shelter-in-place, according to a report.
ROCKY HILL, CT — Residents residing at a Jason Drive condo complex were temporarily evacuated Tuesday due to hazardous conditions, police said.
At 7:17 a.m., the Rocky Hill Fire Department responded to Jason Drive, for the report of smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors intermittently activating with no smoke or fire, police said.
"Upon arrival, we had a multi-gas meter giving readings of a hazardous condition," police said. "Verification with additional meters confirmed the initial condition. Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was requested and arrived by 7:54 a.m. to assist in addressing the condition."

"It was determined that the building with the readings should be evacuated. The Connecticut Division of Emergency Management (DEM) arrived on scene and would coordinate if/when additional resources were required to mitigate the incident," police added. "The gasses that created the situation were found to have come from a combination of an application of a pesticide applied inside the residence and new furniture off-gassing. The conditions were mitigated and the incident was cleared at 11:33 a.m."
Wethersfield and Newington Fire Departments assisted the RHFD by providing coverage of the town during the incident.
