HSS Rocky Hill Chapter celebrates teachers appreciation day

Hindu SwayamSevak Sangh (HSS), a non-profit organization, organized a teacher appreciation on May 17, 2025 at the CREC Discovery Academy.

Hindu SwayamSevak Sangh (HSS), a non-profit cultural organization, organized a teacher appreciation event on May 17, 2025 at the CREC Discovery Academy in Wethersfield, CT. During the celebration, the Rocky Hill chapter of the HSS honored teachers’ efforts towards changing student lives.

To begin the celebration, an interactive presentation explained the meaning of Guru. The Guru was described as the one who removes ignorance and leads others on the path of enlightenment. There were also a variety of cultural performances ranging from classical dances such as Bhartnatyam and Kathak to the recitation of religious prayers including a musical composition of Achyutam Keshavam. Overall, the performances aimed to unify the various individual aspects of Indian culture. The performances were followed by a skit emphasizing the Super-Hero roles teachers play in the lives of their students. Afterwards, students honored their teachers with an aarti and gifts. The teachers and students engaged in an interactive game of Musical Chairs and enjoyed exploring the various cultural booths including a Mendhi kiosk. The event concluded with Indian refreshments featuring samosas, gulab jamuns, and chai.

Many teachers, accompanied by their families, from local schools attended the event and shared their reflections and experiences. The Honorable Mayor of Rocky Hill, Lisa J. Marotta was also present and addressed the gathering with her thoughts and appreciation.
